We have a wide range of girls’ only opportunities below. All mixed junior club teams also allow for girls to play alongside boys.
Girls are able to play in both a Saturday mixed & Sunday girls only team.
U8 GIRLS SOFT BALL (YEARS 2 - 4)
Girls in school years 2-4 can now play Girls Soft Ball cricket for their club. This grade is skills based (more akin to the mixed nursery grades some clubs offer) with a 6 a side game at the end (where possible and interest and ability allow). All teams will be at the same location, and a Cricket Wellington staff member will initially support parents and clubs for the first few Sundays to ensure things run smoothly before stepping away and allowing this to be a parent/caregiver run grade as per all our other junior grades.
The sessions last 45 minutes to 1 hour.
U10 GIRLS SOFT BALL ( YEARS 4 - 6)
The Girls U10 Soft Ball grade is soft ball cricket for girls in school years four, five and six who can play a six or eight a side game (both from a concentration and ability perspective) but are not ready for an 16m pitch and potentially playing against older and stronger girls. The pitch length is 14m and girls will bat in pairs for four overs each. All girls will bat, bowl, and wicket keep.
The games are played on Sundays during the cricket season and take approximately 90 minutes.
U13 GIRLS SOFT BALL (YEARS 6 - 8)
The Girls U13 Soft Ball grade is for girls in school years 6, 7, and 8 and is an 8 a side grade. The pitch length is 16m, and the girls will play in a pairs format, with pairs batting for 5 overs. All players will bat, bowl and wicket keep.
The games are played on Sundays during the cricket season and take approximately 90 minutes.
GILRS HARD BALL (YEARS 5 - 9)
The Girls Hard Ball grade is for girls from school year 5 to 9 and is an entry, development grade for girls who are new to hardball cricket, or who are less confident hardball players. It is 8 a side and the teams will play 16 over pairs cricket and T20 cricket. Games are on Saturday afternoons.
Please note: Whilst girls are eligible to play in both mixed junior cricket in the morning & girls only cricket in the afternoon please be aware that the scheduling of games may not always align.
PREMIER GIRLS HARD BALL (YEARS 8 - 11)
Premier Girls Hard Ball is our top girls hard ball grade for girls who have previously played hardball cricket in the Mixed Junior grades, in the Girls Hardball grades, or a combination of both. This grade is for players who are still developing their skills and are not quite ready (socially or physically) to play with and against women in the Senior grades. The teams are 9 a side and will play T20 and T30 formats on a 20m pitch with no batting grace period. Batters must be rotated each week through the lineup and retirements are still in place. This grade is for school year 8 and up. Games are on Saturday afternoons.
Please note: Whilst girls are eligible to play in both mixed junior cricket in the morning & girls only cricket in the afternoon please be aware that the scheduling of games may not always align.
Cricket Wellington is happy to set up friendly matches inside PlayHQ for club teams who have organised them to be able to live score.
