General Manager Finance

Cricket Wellington is seeking a high-performing and commercially astute General Manager Finance to lead our financial and HR functions and support the organisation’s continued growth and sustainability.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager Finance is a critical senior leadership role responsible for leading Cricket Wellington’s financial strategy, planning, and performance.

You will oversee all financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audit, and capital planning, while also leading HR functions across the organisation. The role also provides financial leadership and support to the Basin Reserve Trust.

As a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board, and Finance & Risk Committee, you will provide clear, practical insights to support decision-making and ensure the organisation continues to operate on a strong and sustainable financial footing.

Strategic Focus

This role directly contributes to Cricket Wellington’s strategic outcome of Building a High-Performing Organisation, ensuring strong financial discipline, effective resource allocation, and a sustainable platform for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial reforecasting across the organisation.
  • Deliver accurate and timely monthly financial reporting, including clear insights and recommendations.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO, Board, and Finance & Risk Committee.
  • Lead audit processes and ensure compliance with all financial and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee cashflow, funding streams, and financial risk management.
  • Lead capital expenditure planning and support business case development for key projects.
  • Establish and maintain strong financial controls, systems, and disciplines.
  • Lead HR functions, including employment processes, performance management, and staff wellbeing.
  • Provide financial leadership and support to the Basin Reserve Trust.
  • Build financial capability across the organisation, supporting leaders to effectively manage budgets and performance.

About You

We’re looking for a pragmatic and trusted finance leader who can operate both strategically and hands-on. You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field, with CAANZ (or equivalent) preferred.
  • A genuine interest in sport and/or cricket, and an appreciation for the role it plays in bringing communities together and driving participation and performance.
  • Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role.
  • Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and audit.
  • The ability to provide clear, practical financial insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working with Boards, Committees, and external partners.
  • Strong people leadership capability, including exposure to HR functions.
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • A collaborative and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment.
