27th Annual General Meeting of Cricket Wellington


Cricket Wellington held its 27th Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 8 October 2025, reflecting on a year of prudent financial management and continued progress both on and off the field. The meeting, attended by members, stakeholders, and cricket enthusiasts, was presided over by President Bryan Waddle.

Board Member Updates

Under the Cricket Wellington Constitution, two Directors retire by rotation each year. This year, David Howman and Jason Wells were due to retire and both sought re-election. The members unanimously re-elected both as Directors of Cricket Wellington.

 

David Howman

David is a sport integrity consultant in Wellington, New Zealand. He is the Chair of the World Athletics Integrity Board, the Chair of World Squash Ethics Commission, Deputy Chair of the International Tennis Federation Ethics Commission, and Chair of the International Cricket Council Anti-Corruption Oversight Group. David was a member of the Australian Government’s Panel reporting on Sport Integrity in 2018 and holds the position of Adjunct Professor at Auckland University of Technology. Nationally he is a board member of the Racing Integrity Board, Chair of Cricket Wellington and was the Reviewer responsible for the report on Gymnastics New Zealand.

David was Director General of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), from August 2003 until July 2016, and was instrumental in the shaping of WADA into a highly respected and unified global organization responsible for regulating and monitoring world sport and world governments. 

Prior to his time at WADA David practised as a barrister specialising in sport law, and represented many prominent NZ players, referees and coaches. He was Chair of Tennis NZ, Fair Play Citing Commissioner for NZ Rugby and SANZAR, and on the Boards of the Hillary Commission and NZ

Sports Foundation.

With a large experience of governance at both local and national levels in sport in New Zealand, accompanying his vast international expertise and management skills, David brings a unique leadership capacity to all matters he is engaged in. 

David received a CNZM for services to sport in 2017.

 

Jason Wells

Jason is currently Chief Creative Officer of Wellington data company Dotlovesdata and part owner of creative agency EightyOne. Prior to that Jason spent 15 years with advertising agency Y&R New Zealand.

Working with some New Zealand’s biggest brands, Jason is responsible for solving business problems with the smart use of data and creative ideas.

Jason played cricket for Wellington for 12 years ending in 2001/02 season. He has stayed involved in cricket through coaching his two sons at Rongotai College and working with current and past firebirds.

Jason will bring his knowledge of cricket combined with his ability to think differently about the problems and opportunities Cricket Wellington currently face now and in the future.

 

Confirmation of Minutes and Annual Report

The minutes from the previous AGM were approved. CEO Todd Bryant presented the Annual Report, highlighting the successes of the High-Performance program and community engagement initiatives. Read our Annual Report here.

 

Financial Overview

Board Member Rochelle Roddick reported revenue of $6,470,676 and costs of $6,451,429 for the financial year, resulting in a small surplus of $19,247, a significant improvement on the $207,592 loss recorded in the previous year.

Careful fiscal management and forward planning were required and achieved throughout the year, and Cricket Wellington acknowledges the efforts of Chief Executive Todd Bryant and the entire staff for their commitment to maintaining financial stability. Cash balances stood at approximately $324,000 at the end of July.

 

Leadership Elections

The meeting also included the election of office bearers:

  • Patron: Trish McKelvey was re-elected.
  • President: Bryan Waddle was re-elected.
  • Vice Presidents: The Board recommended four individuals for Vice President; Ross Bond, Olivia Boyd, Grant McAlister, and Jill Saulbrey
  • Honorary Cricket Member: The Board recommended two members to become Honorary Cricket Members; Iain McPeake and Ollie Newton

 

Auditor and Honorary Officers

The Board recommended the reappointment of Moore Markhams as the organisation's auditor, which was approved.

The Board also made the following recommendations for Honorary Officers:

  • Honorary Legal Counsel – With John Greenwood retiring from the role, the Board recommended Nick Whittington be appointed as his successor.

  • Honorary Medical Officer Dr Jake Pearson

  • Honorary Statistician – Ian Smith

 

Constitution Changes

In accordance with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, Cricket Wellington has updated and re-registered its Constitution with the Companies Office to ensure compliance. Alasdair McBeth spoke to these changes. The updated Constitution is now available on the Cricket Wellington website.

 

No further business was raised at the AGM.
