The Wellington Blaze have confirmed that Kate Chandler will be transferring to Canterbury for the 2025/26 domestic season.
A talented right-handed batter and leg-spin bowler, Chandler has emerged as one of Wellington’s most exciting young all-rounders. Born in Wellington in November 2006 and coming through the Wellington Pathways system, Kate earned her maiden list‑A five‑wicket haul at just 14 years old, bowling Wellington to victory over Canterbury in a New Zealand Women’s One-Day match in 2020.
Kate went on to represent New Zealand at under‑19 level. She has featured regularly for the Blaze in both Super Smash and Hallyburton Johnstone Shield formats and has become an increasingly influential member of the squad.
Head Coach Jonny Bassett‑Graham reflected on Chandler’s impact and future prospects:
“Kate has been a standout product from our Pathways programme and quickly earned her place in the Blaze line-up. Her maturity, skill set, and fierce competition for places have helped raise standards across the group.”
“We wish her every success in Canterbury, and there’s no doubt she’ll bring energy and quality to their set-up in the coming season.”
Cricket Wellington thanks Kate for her contributions to the Blaze across multiple formats and looks forward to following her career as she heads south with Canterbury.
