Exciting Announcements from Cricket Wellington's Recent AGM


Bryan Waddle Elected President Replacing Bruce Edgar who now takes on the Director of Cricket role at Cricket Wellington.

Cricket Wellington is delighted to announce the election of Bryan Waddle as President. 

Truly earning the title ‘voice of New Zealand Cricket’, Bryan has been our country’s senior cricket broadcaster for 35 years, this year notching up his 280th cricket match behind the microphone. 

A MNZM recipient, he has greatly enhanced our knowledge of and love for this great game. We look forward to Bryan’s leadership over the coming season.

Former President Alasdair McBeth Recognized As Life Member

The Board of Cricket Wellington is very pleased to recommend the election of Alasdair as a Life Member of Cricket Wellington.

Alasdair’s skills, professionalism, and passion has greatly benefited Local Cricket. He has made a huge contribution to the game in Wellington, and has contributed to the sport through his many membership and governance roles with the Wellington Wanderers Cricket Club, the  Management Committee of Wellington Cricket,  Cricket Wellington  (including 8 years as President), Chairman of the Wellington Cricket Trust, the Wellington Cricket Foundation, and the Honours Committee.

Because of this extraordinary commitment to the game and community of Cricket it is with great pleasure that he is now elected as a Life Member of Cricket Wellington.

David Howman and Jason Wells Re-elected to the Board

Cricket Wellington is pleased David Howman and Jason Wells will continue on the board for a further 3 years. 

David Howman brings a leadership capacity to Cricket Wellington which leads on from the tremendous job undertaken by Sally Morrison.

David has extensive experience of governance at both local and national levels in sport. 

He has a passion for cricket and a commitment to mentor future leaders which will be of incredible benefit to our players over the next three years.

Jason Wells brings a background of creatively solving business challenges, as well as a life-long love of cricket to the board. 

Jason is Managing Director and owner of Dotlovesdata as well as co-owner of creative agency EightyOne. Jason played cricket for Wellington for 12 years ending in 2001/02 season. His involvement with cricket continued, through working with current and past Firebirds. 

Jason will bring his knowledge of cricket combined with his ability to think differently about the problems and opportunities Cricket Wellington currently faces, both now and in the future.

Five Vice Presidents Elected

Angus Devine:

Cricket Wellington is pleased to announce the election of Angus Devine as a Vice President.

Angus has been strongly involved in school cricket for many years. A well respected and passionate coach, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and passionate. With commitment and sacrifice he has motivated hundreds of young players to play at club level.

Justine Dunce:

Cricket Wellington is pleased to announce the election of Justine Dunce as a Vice President.

Justine has had two remarkable cricket careers: the first as a player and the second as a coach. 

Justine passionately believes in developing players and coaches who will contribute to the future success of our great sport.

Robbie Kerr:

Cricket Wellington is pleased to announce the election of Robbie Kerr as a Vice President of Cricket Wellington. 

This nomination reflects the dedication and commitment Robbie has given to the game over many years of service, both as a player and administrator, and proud father of two absolute cricket superstars Jess and Melie. 

A multi talented cricketer and extraordinary coach, he has been Director of Cricket at Cricket Wellington, Blaze Head Coach, the New Zealand Women’s A Coach, and the Blaze Performance Manager. 

With his steadfast support and impassioned approach Cricket Wellington is thrilled to welcome him as a Vice President.

Matthew Roche:

Cricket Wellington is pleased to announce the election of Matthew Roche as a Vice President of Cricket Wellington. 

After playing cricket in Aotearoa and also the United Kingdom (UK) Matthew turned to coaching  He assisted Bob Carter, worked with Don Neely, and coached both the Wellington Blaze and the Women’s 2nd XI’s for several years. 

During his tenure at the Brooklyn Junior Cricket Club he helped grow the club from a single junior side, to a mammoth 18 sides.

His contribution to cricket in Wellington is immense, and we are excited to welcome Matthew as a Vice President.

John Sewell:

Cricket Wellington is pleased to announce the election of John Sewell as a Vice President of Cricket Wellington. 

John is a hard working, unselfish, and constructive contributor. 

Adept administration in clubs is essential, and John has contributed this skill greatly over the years. It is for this reason that John Sewell has been elected to join Cricket Wellington as a Vice President. 

Michael Pollard Elected Honorary Cricket Member

Cricket Wellington is pleased to elect Michael Pollard as Honorary Cricket Member. 

Whilst statistics are a good gauge, a player’s legacy in Cricket is the way they carry themselves and how they are remembered by their teammates. 

Trustworthy, hardworking, always putting the team first, constantly striving to improve. 

A superb fielder, a gifted athlete, and a Firebird of Distinction, finishing with 3 first class hundreds, 2 List A hundreds and 34 x 50’s across all the formats along with a tally of 192 games.

He deserves to be celebrated as someone who has made an impact and inspires others to do the same for the Wellington family of cricketers.
