Work has now begun on a brand new, state-of-the-art training facility to be located on the lower field of Wellington College, in partnership with the school. Modelled off the recently completed New Zealand Cricket High Performance Centre at Tauranga's Bay Oval, the new training centre will have 20 grass wickets and four artificial wickets housed in a greenhouse with a retractable roof that can be closed to enable training in wet weather. The centre will provide access to grass wickets 12 months of the year, enabling all pathway team and athletes trainings to be conducted on grass, better replicating the conditions that the players perform in. With the 20 grass training wickets at the Talent Centre, alongside the 30 grass training wickets at the Cello Basin Reserve, Cricket Wellington will now be able to provide access to 50 grass training wickets across two central Wellington venues.
