Rachin is a left-handed top order batter and left-arm spin bowler, whose talent was recognised early. He was named Wellington’s outstanding under-20 player six times and was player of the tournament when HIBS won the Gillette Cup for schoolboy supremacy in 2015.

He played five first-class games and five one-dayers for New Zealand A in October and November 2018, then made his Plunket Shield debut against the Central Stags at Nelson in December 2018, when he scored 82 runs and shared an opening stand of 131 with Luke Woodcock. His first Super Smash game was against the Otago Volts at Dunedin in January 2019, and his first one-dayer was against the Volts at Queenstown in October of that year.

Rachin made his Test debut against India at Kanpur in November 2021, scoring 18 from 91 balls to help the BLACKCAPS draw the match. He played his first ODI against Sri Lanka at Eden Park in March 2023, scoring 49 from 52 balls. He made 578 runs in 10 innings at the ICC Cricket World Cup in Inda during October and November 2023 and was named ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year for 2023.

Rachin made his T20I debut against Bangladesh at Mirpur in September 2021. In March 2024, aged 24, he became the youngest player to receive the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal, the highest award for New Zealand men's cricket.

He had two seasons with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL scoring 37 from 15 balls on debut in March 2024. Later that year he was a member of the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) champions the Washington Freedom, who were coached by Ricky Ponting.
