Melie is a right-handed batter and a skilful right-arm leg-spinner, who is the younger sister of fellow Blaze and current WHITE FERNS player Jess. She played her first HBJ Shield and T20 games for the Blaze against the Canterbury Magicians on the Basin Reserve in November 2014, aged 14. Whilst international commitments now curtail her domestic appearances, Melie has led the Blaze T20 side to the last two Super Smash titles.
She first played for the WHITE FERNS against Pakistan at Lincoln in November 2016, although her first innings was against Australia at Mt Maunganui in March
2017 – her seventh game. In an ODI against Ireland at Dublin in June 2018 Melie made 232 runs which remains the highest score in a women’s ODI. Her first T20I was against Pakistan at Nelson in 2016 when she took 3-16 from her four overs. Melie is now the WHITE FERNS’ premier all-rounder and has been awarded the Debbie Hockley medal as New Zealand’s outstanding women’s cricketer in each of the last three years. She was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Year for 2024. In demand as a T20 match winner, she has had successful stints in the Australian, Indian and English leagues.
