Woodcock receives Life Membership from Johnsonville CC

Wellington Firebirds legend Luke Woodcock was presented with Life Membership from his beloved Johnsonville Cricket Club at the club’s 133rd AGM last Wednesday.

Known in Wellington cricketing circles as the ‘’Mayor of Johnsonville”, Woodcock began his cricket at the club where he still holds the club runs (6771) and century (12) records.

He went on to make his debut for Wellington in 2001 at the age of 19 and has racked up 384 appearances across all three formats for his home association, scoring 10,594 runs and taking 339 wickets.

Luke was joined at the ceremony by fellow Johnsonville CC Life Members Cheryl Styles, George Halliday, Dallas Mildenhall and Alan Isaac.

Johnsonville CC chairman Rick Mudgway was full of praise for the Wellington cricket legend and thanked him for his years of dedication and service to the club.

“Luke has been an outstanding servant for the club over the years and we hope he will continue to be into the future,” he said.

“He epitomises the values and respect for his club, he is an example to all young cricketers and we are very proud to have elected him as a new life member to the club.

“Luke will remain involved with the club as a player for the next couple of seasons and is now embarking on an involvement in coaching the sport he loves as well as developing his career at DB.”
