Following the success of last season’s Junior Boys Development Programme, delivered in collaboration with Central Districts Cricket, we are excited to offer the programme again in 2026. This season will provide an expanded opportunity for more young cricketers to be involved.
The 2025 programme received very positive feedback from players, whānau, and coaches, and highlighted strong potential to further grow participation and development outcomes across the region.
The programme is targeted at Year 8 male students in 2026 who are passionate about cricket and who embody the Spirit of Cricket. Places are limited to 60 participants.
The programme will include weekly Tuesday training sessions, starting 10 February, delivered by qualified and experienced coaches. The season will culminate in a three day festival in Whanganui from 8 to 10 April, with final dates to be confirmed.
From the wider training group, teams will be selected to attend the Whanganui festival in April.
We are initially seeking Expressions of Interest and encourage clubs and schools to share this opportunity with junior players who will be entering Year 8 in 2026.
Expressions of Interest close on Sunday 1 February.
Costs
Participation in the eight week training programme is $150 per player.
Participation in the Whanganui festival will be an additional cost, to be confirmed. This is expected to be approximately $400 per player and will include accommodation and food.
