Junior football returns to the Cello Basin Reserve this weekend, with the iconic venue set to host matches throughout the winter season.
Two fields will be in use across Saturdays and Sundays as Capital Football’s under 12 & 13 players take to one of Wellington’s most historic sporting grounds.
The initiative will see hundreds of young male and female footballers enjoy the unique opportunity to play at the Cello Basin Reserve throughout winter, with the venue providing high quality playing conditions during a time of year when weather can often impact grounds across the region. For many players and families, it will also be a special chance to experience one of New Zealand sport’s most iconic venues and become part of the Basin’s long sporting history.
With the Cello Basin Reserve traditionally known as the home of cricket in Wellington, Cricket Wellington Venue Manager, Ryan Holland, said it was great to see the ground continue to be enjoyed by young athletes from across the region.
“We’re very proud of the Basin’s place as a community asset and we know how much kids and their parents love the opportunity to play sport at such an iconic venue, especially one with a rich football history."
