Cricket Wellington Farewells Tom Pere

Cricket Wellington would like to thank Tom Pere, who will be finishing up with the organisation on Friday, 23 January, as he takes up a new role with Nuku Ora.

During his three and a half years at Cricket Wellington, Tom has made a lasting contribution to the game and to our communities. A key highlight of Tom’s work has been building and growing the Māori cricket space, creating meaningful opportunities for rangatahi, tāne and wāhine from Te Whanganui a Tara to take part in quality cricket tournaments while strengthening their cultural connection to the game. Tom’s leadership in this space was recognised nationally when he received an NZC Community Award.

Tom has also led our junior and youth participation programmes, delivering festivals and tournaments that support young players to develop their skills and love for cricket. His work helped strengthen pathways and connections between young people, their schools, and clubs through the transition into and out of secondary school years.

In addition, Tom has driven innovation and improvement in our in-school delivery, managing the ambassador programme to ensure cricket experiences were engaging, inclusive, and enjoyable for children of all ages, abilities, and interests.

Cricket Wellington's Community General Manager, Blair Duncan, says, "We are incredibly grateful for Tom’s passion, commitment, and the powerful impact he has had across cricket in the Wellington region. We wish him every success in his next chapter with Nuku Ora".

Tom Pere adds, “I’m incredibly grateful for my time at Cricket Wellington and for the people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside. Being able to give back to a sport that played a big part of my upbringing has been very rewarding. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and thankful for the support, trust, and relationships built over my time here. I look forward to staying connected to the game and the community as I take on this next chapter with Nuku Ora.”

Cricket Wellington are working through the process for Tom's replacement and more information will be out in due course.
