Australian pace bowler Maitlan Brown will return to New Zealand this summer, rejoining the Wellington Blaze for the Super Smash 2025/26 season.

Brown will be available for six matches, starting from round one on Friday 27 December, when the Blaze face the Central Hinds at Fitzherbert Park, with the match beginning at 12.40pm.

The Blaze will then return home for their first home fixture of the season on Monday 29 December, hosting the Auckland Hearts at the Cello Basin Reserve, also starting at 12.40pm.

Brown made a strong impact during her stint with the Blaze in last season’s Super Smash, adding pace, control and experience to the bowling attack while contributing valuable runs down the order. Her performances through the latter stages of the campaign reinforced her value as a genuine all-round option and an influential presence within the group.

The 27-year-old right-arm seamer plays her domestic cricket in Australia for the Sydney Sixers and NSW Women and brings significant experience to Wellington colours. Brown has surpassed 100 appearances in the Women’s Big Bash League, claimed more than 70 wickets in the competition, and has also featured in The Hundred with Southern Brave.

Speaking on her return, Brown said she was looking forward to pulling on the Blaze colours once again.

“I really enjoyed my time with the Blaze last season and I’m excited to be coming back,” said Brown.
“It’s a great environment to be part of and I’m looking forward to contributing from the start of the competition.”

Wellington Blaze head coach Jonny Bassett-Graham welcomed Brown’s return for the opening stages of the season.

“Maitlan had an immediate impact for us last summer,” he said.
“She brings international experience, calm under pressure and genuine strike power with the ball, as well as depth with the bat. Having her available from round one is a real boost for our campaign.”

Brown’s return further strengthens the Blaze squad as they prepare for Super Smash 2025/26, with the team aiming to build momentum early in the competition.
