Veterans Cricket Tournament

Veterans Cricket Wellington are set to host the first Veterans Cricket NZ (VCNZ) Over 70s cricket tournament to be held in Petone.

The tournament involves 52 players from around the country in four teams to play three games of cricket over 4 days.

The playing days are Monday 5th Feb, Tuesday 6th Feb and Thursday 8th Feb at Petone Rec in Lower Hutt.

All games are 40 overs per side with Mondays games commencing at 11.00am and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10.30 am.

The weather forecast looks great all week so there shouldn’t be any interruptions due to rain with games expected to finish around 4.00 to 4.30pm every day.

The players, who are active players within the Community game of all 6 Major Associations, will be representing Top of the North, Districts, Central and Mainland.

Dave Harle, the Tournament Organiser along with Grant Baker and a small band of Wellington Over 60s volunteers will ensure the tournament runs well.

The support of Craigs Investment Partners as premium sponsor of VCNZ, Hutt City, Ata Rangi Vineyard and Winery, Speights Ale House and The Victoria Tavern in Petone and Cricket Wellington’s Community cricket team has helped bring the tournament to fruition.

Following the Tournament, a squad will be selected to represent VCNZ at the first 70s World Cup to be held in England in July/August 2024. Be sure to head down to the Petone Rec to support on the teams and all the best to all those competing!
