Development and Advanced Development coaching courses


Cricket Wellington is now calling for entries for the 2022 Development and Advanced Development coaching courses. These FREE courses will be facilitated by Christian Thurston and Mark Borthwick, the New Zealand Cricket Regional Coach Development Manager. With support by members of Wellington’s high-performance coaching and playing community.

 

DEVELOPMENT COURSE
This is a blended course delivered over three evenings. The course combines online and practical modules alongside personal study and is intended for coaches of intermediate, college, and youth teams who have existing knowledge and/or experience as a coach. The course will cover planning, the role of the coach, skill acquisition, growth and maturation while also delving into what makes an effective coach.

Minimum Requirements: Advanced Foundation qualification*

Dates:  Monday 5th September 6-9pm, Tuesday 13th September 6-9pm and Wednesday 21st September 6-9pm. (if selected, you must attend all three sessions)

Location: Sky Stadium Wellington School of Cricket and/or Basin Reserve

 

ADVANCED DEVELOPMENT COURSE
This course is for coaches who have an active coaching record and commitment to coaching and have shown ability coaching talented athletes and teams in a variety of settings. Coaches who attend the course will be identified to coach premier club teams, school 1st XI’s and age grade representative teams. The course will cover coaching philosophy, planning and evaluation, performance analysis, coaching process, team coaching, mental skills, and a variety of skills and drills.

Minimum Requirements: Development (formerly Level One) qualification OR overseas equivalent*

Dates: Saturday 10th September 10-3pm, Sunday 11th September 10-3pm and Friday 16th September 6-9pm. (If selected, you must attend all three sessions)

Location: Sky Stadium Wellington School of Cricket and/or Basin Reserve

 

*Exemptions will be considered for those with an extensive coaching background or former/current performance players who have expressed a desire in pursuing coaching.

 

Before an application is considered prospective coaches must register on New Zealand Cricket’s coaching portal located here. Coaches must also complete the Welfare of Children and Vulnerable Adults Module.
