West Australian wicket-keeper batsman Luke Ronchi will make his Wellington Firebirds debut against the Central Stags at Karori Park on Sunday.
Ronchi, who arrived in New Zealand and joined the Firebirds this week, is looking forward to playing his first game for the Firebirds. “I’m excited about playing for Wellington on Sunday and look forward to the challenge of playing with my new teammates and in the new environment,” he said.
Ronchi has most recently being playing for Western Australia Warriors in the Australian first-class Sheffield Shield domestic competition, his side just missing out on the final: “It was frustrating to miss out by two points on playing in the final, but that disappointment has led to this opportunity and I’m really glad to be here.”
The Wellington Firebirds squad to play the Central Stags in round nine of the Plunket Shield at Karori Park from Sunday 18 - Wednesday 21 March is:
Grant Elliott (Captain, Naenae Old Boys)
Harry Boam (Karori)
Josh Brodie (Eastern Suburbs)
James Franklin (Wellington Collegians)

Luke Ronchi (Overseas Player)
Andy McKay (Karori)
Stephen Murdoch (Karori)
Michael Papps (Wellington Collegians)
Jeetan Patel (Eastern Suburbs)
Michael Pollard (North City)
Luke Woodcock (Johnsonville)
From the team that drew with the Northern Knights earlier this week at the Hawkins Basin Reserve, Ronchi and Luke Woodcock come in for Mark Gillespie (with the BLACKCAPS) and Craig Cachopa.
