Norths cash in while Easts continue to set the pace

Wellington Club Cricket 7 November: The first day on grass wickets saw Aaron McCash score 151 for North City’s Premiers, Elliott Brookes take a hat-trick for the Norths Seniors and Eastern Suburbs’ Premiers give another polished performance to beat Naenae Old Boys by 9 wickets.

McCash scored 151 out of  his side’s mammoth 337 for 3 against University and Michael Pollard assisted him with 81 on a good batting track at Kelburn Park. University scored 223 in reply, Michael Goldstein and Hamish Evans getting past forty. Dewayne Bowden (3 for 29) and Tipene Friday (3 for 49) were the best of the bowlers.

Naenae could only make 128 against Easts. Josh Stuart had another successful day taking 3 for 24. Easts openers Josh Brodie (42) and Jeremy Dean (79 not out) put on 120 for the first wicket as the playing through champions won with 28.2 overs to spare.

Onslow batted first against Hutt District and made 165 for 9, Neal Parlane top scored with 47. David Twigg was again among the wickets with 3 for 28. Hutt got the required runs but took 47 overs to do so. Kieran Lennon hit an unbeaten 64 from 94 balls to lead the way. Liam Chrisp took 3 for 21.

Karori scored 233 against Taita thanks mainly to Stephen Murdoch getting 98 before being caught on the boundary. Taita made 143 in reply, Sunnie Chan mopping up the tail to finish with 3 for 11.

In the Senior competition, the highlight was Brookes’ hat-trick for Norths against Wellington College. Wellington College had been 83 for 3 before this and subsequently made 123. Brookes finished with 4 for 30 and Mike Hayward took 3 for 32.  Norths got the runs in 23 overs, Russell Kyne scoring 48.

Karori got 277 against Taita with all batsmen reaching double figures. Jono Sole scored 60. David Little took 3 for 51. Taita were dismissed for 177, James Hill taking 3 for 37.

Johnsonville recovered from a shaky start to compile 197 fro 7 against Upper Hutt. Matthew Judge top scored with 56. Upper Hutt scored 172 in reply. Marios Stols, Luke Woodcock and Sam Outtrim all took three wickets.

Petone-Riverside got up in a close finish over Collegians. They made 145 for 8 after Collegians had scored 144

In Senior Women’s play,  Collegians made 129 against Johnsonville. Michelle Bunkall taking 4 for 21. However Johnsonville could only score 87, of which 47 were extras. Kerry-Ann Tomlinson took 5 for 29.
