Saturday 31 March saw the end of the junior cricket season and for the first time in recent memory, juniors played on the Hawkins Basin Reserve. Twelve Year Two teams were given the opportunity to play on the outfield of the hallowed turf.  The magnitude of the opportunity was not lost on the children as one of them quickly pronounced "This is the best day ever!"

Cricket Wellington Junior Cricket Coordinator, Tama Walker was rapt that they were able to play junior cricket on New Zealand’s oldest Test venue.  “There was a brief window in the playing schedule at the Basin so we managed to allocate some games there.  We’re grateful to the Basin Reserve Trust and the groundsmen for allowing us to use the best cricket venue in the country for Year Two cricket.  Speaking with the kids and parents, it was certainly a highlight of their season.”
