Inter-zone Match: HIBS (Wellington) vs. Francis Douglas (Central Districts)
After beating Scots College in the Wellington Final the team travelled north to Wanganui to meet Francis Douglas at Victoria Park. Conditions were warm and dry on the first grass wicket of the season. On a good batting surface and after losing the toss, HIBS restricted Francis Douglas to 85 for 9 off their 20 overs thanks to some very tight bowling and athletic fielding which saw three run-outs.
The pick of the bowlers was Adam Webster with miserly figures of 1 for 6 off his compliment of 4 overs. Wickets were distributed evenly amongst the remaining bowlers. Remarkably Josh Rogerson featured in 5 of the nine dismissals.
HIBS started their innings in positive form with Josh Rogerson and Caleb Hewson. The first wicket fell at 31 but HIBS were always above the required run rate. The running between the wickets was superb and continued to be for the remainder of the innings. Year seven students Nathan Watt and Jesse Tashkoff saw the team home with only 6 wickets down with 9 balls to spare.
The win saw HIBS go through the National finals for the first time in the school’s history.
