An action-packed weekend of Wellington and Hutt Valley club cricket saw three hat-tricks, a 6-wicket bag, a 10-wicket match haul and eight centuries scored.
The three hat-tricks were taken in the Senior 3, Wellington 2B and Senior Women grades and all contributed to wins for the successful bowlers’ sides.
Johnsonville’s Dean Hudson took a hat-trick and 3 for 35 as part of his team’s 6-wicket win over Eastern Suburbs in Senior 3. Easts’ M. Herring took a hat-trick and 3 for 7 for the Easts Giants in their narrow 3-run win over North City in Wellington 2B, while Onslow’s Suzie McDonald completed the trio of hat-tricks as part of her 3 for 25 in her side’s 46-run win over Johnsonville in the Premier Women’s Twenty20 competition.
Elsewhere, Hutt District’s Andrew Hadley took 6 for 51 and then 4 for 31 for match figures of 10 for 82 in his side’s 84-run Senior 2 victory over Eastbourne. In the same grade, Craig Foster took 7 for 10 and Tim Wilson scored 100 not out as Wainuiomata completed an innings win over Naenae Old Boys.
In two notable performances for the Onslow Raging Stags team competing in the Wellington 1A grade, Chris Gazley cracked 154 and his teammate J. McLeod took 6 for 8 in two overs as the Onslow team scored 405 for 7 and then dismissed the University Sons of Pitches for 55.
Gazley’s total was four short of the highest ton of the round, 158 scored by A. Graham of the Naenae Old Boys’ Hutt Valley 2A team that beat Eastbourne by 161 runs.
In two other centuries in the Wellington 1A grade, E. Boshier amassed 134 for the Collegians Axemen in their 108-run over the University Indomitables and S. Davenport totalled 118 for the Easts Orginals in their 22-run defeat to the Karori Bakery side.
Other centuries included N. Mehrotra’s 112 not out as part of the Onslow Shake N Bake’s 42-run defeat of the Easts Bulldogs in Wellington 2D, A. Newson’s 106 not out for the Easts Crickets in their 213-run win over the University HQ Walnuts in Wellington Section Two Twenty20 cricket.
