Friday night cricket comes to town

Thursday, 6 September 2012

Friday night cricket is the big new addition to the summer calendar with the announcement of the domestic schedules for 2012/13.

Wellington will have two night games at Westpac Stadium on November 9 and November 16. The remaining three home matches will be played at the Hawkins Basin Reserve on December 26, January 11 and January 13. The first HRV Cup fixture is on 2 November 2012 with the bulk of the Twenty20 matches still taking place during the traditional holiday period before the final on 20 January 2013.

Another highlight is the five week window for the 50-over Ford Trophy. The first of eight rounds will start on 26 February 2012, with the top four teams contesting the preliminary finals before the televised final on 30 March 2012.

The ten full rounds of Plunket Shield will again be split across the summer, allowing for the premiere First-Class competition to have two dedicated periods. The first 16 rounds will be played before Christmas with the remaining 14 rounds getting underway at the end of January.

NZC Chief Executive, David White, said: "There are a lot of factors to consider when putting together a schedule and we feel we have a programme which provides plenty of opportunities for fans to enjoy cricket this summer.

"Having the HRV Cup on Friday nights is an excellent result for cricket with more people getting the chance to see top quality competition.

"We believe it's the best of both worlds. There's the opportunity to showcase the HRV Cup in living rooms across the country throughout November and December, while still catering for cricket lovers during the popular holiday period.

"Together with the Ford Trophy and Plunket Shield, we have another strong men's domestic summer of cricket on offer in 2012-13.

"We are thrilled to have the continued support of our men's domestic cricket commercial partners, HRV and Ford, along with our umpire sponsors, Specsavers. I would also like to thank our broadcast partners SKY TV and Radio Sport who continue to provide excellent coverage of domestic cricket."

Every match will be scored live on www.blackcaps.co.nz and the MA websites.
