Cricket Wellington is pleased to announce the completion of its Club Cricket Review by Vintage Sports Limited (VSL). In late February 2011 Cricket Wellington engaged VSL to conduct an independent review of club cricket and offer recommendations for the long term growth and stability of local club cricket.
VSL presented its findings to the Board of Cricket Wellington on 12 July. Peter Garty, Chairman of Cricket Wellington, said “the Review presentation was well received by the Board, and we believe that its key findings provide a blueprint for the long term health and sustainability of club cricket in Wellington”.
This was preceded by a presentation to the Senior Club Chairmen at Anderson Park on 11 July. At that meeting Cricket Wellington noted the positive attitude taken to the recommendations, and that all parties acknowledged the importance of the work in relation to the future of club cricket in Wellington.
The Board further assessed the recommendations at its recent Board meeting, and made decisions on the adoption of each. In total the Review made 23 recommendations and broadly speaking these centred on four key areas:
1. Stronger club administration
2. A broader community focus for clubs
3. A criteria based system for admission of clubs to Cricket Wellington’s Premier Grade
4. Status quo for 2011/12, so as to allow time for the Clubs and Cricket Wellington to address the first three items

Cricket Wellington Development and Operations Manager, Bryan Dickinson, said: “The general feedback from the clubs has been extremely positive and there is undoubtedly a strong feeling that this is a significant step forward for club cricket, and will support the long term health of cricket in Wellington.”
Chairman Peter Garty added “the Review process was comprehensive and was enhanced in particular by the high levels of interest and engagement shown by local clubs and stakeholders. We have been very pleased with the calibre of submissions to the process and wish to thank all whom contributed to the Review.”
VSL is headed by Peter McDermott, former Chairman of New Zealand Cricket, and has conducted several high level sports reviews in the past. Peter Garty added “Cricket Wellington was fortunate to secure Peter’s expertise for this important piece of work, and we thank him for his efforts.”
