Tom is an innovative right-handed batter and accomplished wicketkeeper. He made his first-class and one-day debuts for the Firebirds on the Basin Reserve in February 2013 against the Auckland Aces and Otago Volts respectively. He played his first Firebirds’ T20 game against Canterbury at Hamilton in November 2014.

Tom made his Test debut against the West Indies on the Basin Reserve in December 2017 scoring 107* in the BLACKCAPS’ only innings. He had played his first T20I against Bangladesh at Mt Maunganui in January 2017, while his ODI debut came against India at Hamilton in February 2020. He was named the New Zealand Test Cricketer of the Year for 2022/23 and is the Firebirds’ current Plunket Shield captain. He played one game for New Zealand Under-19 in January 2010.
