A right-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler, Nathan played for North Otago from 2014 to 2021, debuting when still at school. He played 26 first-class games, 29 one-dayers and 22 T20s for the Otago Volts from 2015 to 2021. His first Plunket Shield and Ford Trophy games for the Firebirds were against the Volts on the Basin Reserve in October and December 2021 respectively. His first Firebirds’ T20 was against the Central Stags on the Basin Reserve in December 2021. He was named New Zealand domestic player of the year for 2023/24.
Nathan made his Test debut against England at Hagley Oval in December 2024, having played his first ODI against Sri Lanka at Dambulla the month before.
He played for Worcestershire CCC (2004) and Surrey CCC (2025) having represented New Zealand at the 2016 Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.
