Wellington fast bowler Michael Snedden has been awarded a Firebirds domestic contract for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

The 27-year-old will replace Jeetan Patel as one of sixteen Wellington contracted players after Patel was given early release from his contract to take up a coaching position with England.

The contract is reward for Snedden after his promising performances for the Firebirds in their Plunket Shield matches against Canterbury and Auckland earlier in the season.

Firebirds head coach Glenn Pocknall said he was delighted to break the news to Snedden.

“We’re really excited to be able to bring Michael in as an officially contracted player for the rest of the year,” he said.

“He has worked extremely hard for us since his move down from Auckland and performed really well in the Plunket Shield matches earlier in the year, so this is just reward for all the hard work.

“Michael is extremely committed to achieving his dreams and we’re looking forward to seeing him contribute throughout the rest of the season.”

Snedden’s contract will officially begin on December 19.
