Velocity 113 for 7 (Wyatt 46, Shafali 34, Deepti 4-14) beat Trailblazers 112 for 6 (Deol 43, Bisht 2-13, Kerr 2-21) by three wickets
Amelia Kerr’s Velocity have survived a middle-order wobble that saw them lose five wickets for no runs to beat the Trailblazers in match two of the women’s IPL overnight.
A Velocity win was looking a formality as they reached 111 for two in pursuit of 113, until they imploded spectacularly losing five wickets for 0 runs in seven balls of spin from Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Deepti Sharma.
Sharma picked up three wickets in five balls in the devastating spell giving her side a sniff at an unlikely win, before a thick edge from Sushree Pradhan eventually sealed the win for the Velocity.
Earlier, Wellington Blaze and WHITE FERNS star Amelia Kerr and Ekta Bisht finished with combined figures of four for 34 from eight overs to restrict Trailblazers to 112 for 6.
Harleen Deol was the only real stand-out for the Trailblazers with a well-made 43 off 40 which helped her side to a respectable total, but it would take a special performance from the Trailblazers bowlers to defend.
Chasing what was a below-par total according to Deol, 15-year-old Shafali and Wyatt took on the bowlers from the time they got together after Hayley Matthews fell early. Shafali’s 34 off 31 and Wyatt’s 46 off 35 meant the late wickets in the 17th and 18th overs were not enough.
The Blaze’s two WIPL stars will face-off next as Kerr’s Velocity take-on Sophie Devine’s Supernovas on Friday night.
