Karori still in front in One-Day competition despite loss

Update Sunday (for Saturday's round-up scroll down): The Wellington U20s earned another Wilkinson Pearce Cup One-Day scalp on Sunday, beating Onslow by 4 wickets and winning in the last over in a 40-over reduced match

Onslow batted first and were all out for 176, opener Jimad Khan top scoring with 41. The U20s batted steadily in reply and reached their target with the first ball of the 40th over.

The U20s have now won four of their five One-Day matches against Pearce Cup sides, beating North City by 83 runs, Naenae Old Boys by 24 runs, Wellington Collegians by 3 wickets and now Onslow. Their only defeat was to Karori when Duckworth Lewis calculations came into effect.

The Pearce Cup One-Day points table is now: Karori 30; Naenae 28;  Under 20s 19, Onslow and Easts 17; Taita 15;Collegians 14; North City 12; Upper Hutt 8

With the exception of the U20s and Taita, who are playing their 50-over encounter this coming Sunday, the coloured clothing is now put away for Wilkinson Pearce Cup and Wilkinson Hazlett Trophy teams until 7 January and the first round of two-day matches gets underway this Saturday.

Saturday's round-up:

Scores in excess of 200 and the defeat of champions Karori by bottom placed Upper Hutt were the highlights of Round 6 of the Wilkinson Pearce Cup.

Karori batted first and scored 255 for 8 against Upper Hutt, Simon Baker scored 71 and jarred Sewell 54 with Michael Billmore taking 3 for 30. Upper Hutt then had their best batting performance of the season reaching the target with only three wickets down. Louie Davidson-Powell made an unbeaten 89 and Leighton Morgan scored 71.

Second placed Naenae Old Boys dominated Onslow. They scored 252 thanks to Cameron Cross (76) and Ronald Karaitiana (63), Corey Larsen was the best of the Onslow bowlers taking 4 for 43. Onslow capitulated in their innings being dismissed for 94. Opener Liam Chrisp carried his bat for 67. Adam Williams got 4 for 13.

Wellington Collegians scored 178 against Taita, Andrew Sturt taking 4 for 35. But the Hutt Valley side could only score 92 in reply. Off-spinner Nathan Brown took 4 for 28.

Eastern Suburbs managed 268 for 6 versus North City. Josh Brodie top scored with 59. Norths made 229 with Michael Pollard 111. Nathan Cameron took 3 for 36 for Easts.

Wilkinson Hazlett Trophy

The Wilkinson Hazlett Trophy saw Wainuiomata have an easy win over University. The students could only score 71 due to Sunnie Chan taking 8 for 41 including his second hat-trick of the season. Wainuiomata scored the runs losing just two wickets. Johnsonville made 238-8 with Haseem Silva top scoring with 90. Matt Atkin took 4 for 47. Karori were dismissed for 141 Sam Coleman getting 5 for 24.

Petone-Riverside made 274 for 6 against Easts. Matt Goldsbury scoring an unbeaten 101. With Jacob Stirling (62) they put on 129 for the first wicket. Easts were dismissed nine runs short, Josh McLauchlan getting 63.

Hutt District made 279 for 9 against bottom placed Taita, evergreen Chris Nevin getting 85. Taita were then dismissed for 104, Tim Robertson taking 6 for 22.
