Sunday, 3 April 2011

Short scorecard after day one of the 2010/11 Wilkinson Pearce Cup final: Karori 381 for 9 (Hamish Templeton 176*, Marc Ellison 87, Stefan Allan 32, Tom Blundell 31, Fraser Quaterman 26; Nathan Cameron 3 for 88 Sam McLauchlan 2-12, Ricky Joseph 2 for 83)

Karori middle order batsman Hamish Templeton resumes on day two of the Wilkinson’s Pearce Cup final at the Hawkins Basin Reserve on 176 not out,  after batting his side into a strong position on the opening day yesterday.

Templeton’s knock formed the backbone of Karori’s innings and they will resume day two on 381 for 9 and with the upper hand on the Pearce Cup against the 9-time defending champions.

As top qualifier, Karori just needs to draw the match, while Easts need to win outright to retain the coveted Pearce Cup. Day two has dawned fine and blustery. Play starts at 10.00am.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, number three Marc Ellison and then number five Templeton took charge at the wicket. Ellison’s 87 off 133 balls included twelve 4s and one 6, while Templeton struck 26 4s and two 6s in his 241-ball, four and a half hour stay at the crease.

Templeton resumes this morning with last man Charles Gallagher after coming to the wicket at the fall of the third wicket with the score on 84.

He featured in an 81-run partnership with Ellison for the fourth wicket and in a 100-run stand with Tom Blundell (31) for the fifth wicket.

For Easts on day one, Nathan Cameron took 3 for 88 off 28 overs, Ricky Joseph 2 for 83 off 18 overs, Sam McLaughlan 2 for 12 off 6 overs, Naranjan Naguleswawan 1 for 71 off 16 overs and captain Lance Dry 1 for 83 off 33 overs.
