HRV Karori, Naenae Old Boys, El Cheapo Cars
Eastern Suburbs and Wellington Collegians all finished the first day of the
second round of two-day cricket in the Wilkinson Pearce Cup in dominant
positions.
The individual highlight came from
Collegians and Wellington Firebird opener Michael Papps who scored 198 against
North City. Opener Papps batted for 70 overs and before being the last player
out - run out off the last ball of the day going for his double century.
Papps added 115 for the sixth wicket with
fellow Firebird Scott Kuggeleijn (65) as Collegians reached 383 in reply to North
City’s 166.
Russell Kyne top scored for North City with
82 while Masaesaili Tugaga took 5 for 23 for Collegians.
The best bowling performance of the day came
from Easts’ Nathan Cameron who took 7 for 24 as Onslow were dismissed for 89 in
reply to Easts 227 for 9. Sam McLauchlan and Scott Golder both hit fifties for Easts.
Following on, Onslow were 44 for 2 in their second innings at the close of play.
Mitre 10 Mega Upper Hutt were bowled out
for 109 by Naenae with Michael Cornish taking 5 for 49. Naenae scored 253 for 7
in reply. Adam Williams top scored with 86 while Cameron Cross hit an unbeaten
67. Upper Hutt were 30 for 2 in their second innings.
Petone Radiators Taita made just 56 against
champions Karori, Lee Edwards taking 5 for 34 and Harry Boam 3 for 20. Karori
were dismissed for 244. Taita were 28 for 1 in their second innings.
In the Wilkinson Hazlett Trophy, Devon and
Patterson Johnsonville, Karori, Petone-Riverside and Hutt District were on top
in their games.
Johnsonville dismissed Four Kings University
for 113, Gareth Powell taking 4 for 13, they then declared at 278 for 4 with
Luke Woodcock (121) and Hareem Silva (102 not out) both scoring centuries.
University were 5 for 3 in their second
innings.
Karori batted first against bottom team
Taita and declared at 325 for 5. Matt Atkin, Harry Wright and Luke Scully all
got fifties. Atkin then took 5 for 34 as Taita were bowled out for 100.
Petone-Riverside took the honours in the
top of the table clash with Wainuiomata. They made 250, with Ryan Price-Moor
and Joe Joseph getting fifties and then had Wainui in trouble at 124 for 8, Tom
Young taking 5 for 28.
Easts made 133 with Fergus Martin taking 4
for 53, and then Hutt were dismissed for 227 Darren Cudby getting 67.
In the Senior women's competition there were wins to Johnsonville and Hutt District.
