Josh Brodie on his way to 149 not for Easts against the Wellington U20s at Kilbirnie Park on Monday.
Wellington Firebirds opener Josh Brodie steered Eastern Suburbs El Cheapo Cars into the Wilkinson Pearce Cup One-Day final against HRV Karori with an innings of 149 not out against the Wellington U20s on Monday.
Brodie carried his bat for his unbeaten 149 in the final round 50-over match at Kilbirnie Park to ensure his side a place in the final, to be played at the Hawkins Basin Reserve this Sunday.
Opener Jeetan Patel scored 41, Jeremy Dean 44 and Jamie Gibson 32 as Easts reached 321 for 6 from their 50 overs.
In reply, the under strength U20s, who were missing 14 players mainly due to representative commitments and two of their own playing for Easts, were dismissed for 96, giving Easts a comfortable bonus point win. The wickets were shared around by the Easts bowlers.
Despite this loss in their last game, the U20s completed an excellent first season playing in the Pearce Cup One-Day competition. Their five wins from seven matches (their only losses being to finalists Karori and Easts) meant they finished second on the points table at the end of the round-robin. The final, however, is to be played between two club sides only.
The final Pearce Cup One-Day points table is: HRV Karori 30; Wellington U20s 28; Eastern Suburbs El Cheapo Cars 25; Naenae Old Boys 21; Wellington Collegians 19; Mitre10 Mega Upper Hutt 15; Onslow 11; North City 9; Petone Radiators Taita 7
