Bonus point wins were the order of the day in the second round of two day matches in the Wilkinson Pearce Cup and Hazlett Trophy.
In the Wilkinson Pearce Cup the top four teams all had convincing wins, with HRV Karori and Wellington Collegians both winning by innings margins while Naenae Old Boys and Eastern Suburbs El Cheapo Cars both had 10-wicket wins.
Leaders and playing through champions Karori defeated Taita by an innings and 6 runs. Taita made 182 in its second innings thanks to fifty from Dave Houghton. Lee Edwards and tom Blundell both took 3 wickets.
Second placed Eastern Suburbs inflicted a ten wicket win on Onslow. Trailing by 138, Onslow were bowled out for 159. Sam Foley was unbeaten on 51 while Michael Burns had the best bowling figures of the day with 6 for 56.
Naenae Old Boys also had a ten wicket win over Upper Hutt. Upper Hutt were 144 behind Naenae and made 199 in its second innings. Matt Taylor had the highest score of the Pearce Cup day with 96. Marc Calkin took 4 for 12. Needing 55 to win, injured BlackCap Jesse Ryder opened the batting and scored an unbeaten 40.
Collegians defeated North City by an innings and 45 runs. Collegians had a first innings lead of 217 and bowled Norths out for 172. Hamish Kyne scored 51 not out while Clinton Butler was the standout bowler with 4 wickets.
In the Wilkinson Hazlett Trophy placings changed as previous leaders Wainuiomata were defeated by Petone-Riverside and dropped to fourth place as their were other outright wins to Johnsonville, Karori and Hutt District.
Johnsonville took the lead after defeating University by and innings and 28 runs. Resuming at 5 for 3, the students made 137. David Hudson took 3 for 29.
Petone-Riverside jumped into second place after defeating Wainuiomata by five wickets. Wainui were 124 behind on first innings but 123 by Craig Foster enabled them to reach 138. Kelvin Snell and Sam Blandford both took 3 wickets. Snell was instrumental in getting Petone-Riverside home. They lost five quick wickets but an unbeaten 57 saw them home.
Hutt District had a first innings lead of 94 over Easts, but the Wellington side made 233 in its second innings. Asif Mohammad took 4 for 40. Chasing 140 to win, Hutt had an opening stand of 105 with both openers, Andrew Roberts and Tim Robertson getting fifties.
Karori defeated bottom side Taita by an innings and 26. 225 behind on first innings, Taita had its best batting performance of the season reaching 197. Phil Crothers making a fifty. Stephen Graham had career best figures of 6 for 26.
