Luke Fletcher joins Firebirds for Twenty20 competition

downloadCricket Wellington is pleased to announce the signing of Nottinghamshire swing bowler Luke Fletcher as an overseas player for the Twenty20 competition.

Fletcher, 26, has been signed on the recommendation of James Franklin after being his team mate in recent months. He will join the Wellington Firebirds in time for the Twenty20 competition after a successful season with Nottinghamshire, where he has taken 186 first class wickets since his debut in 2008.

Peter Clinton, CEO Cricket Wellington, said that the move to a dedicated T20 window meant that the Firebirds could recruit a specialist for the whole competition. “Ideally you want specialists and players who can commit to the full campaign. I’m aware that Luke is a very popular player among Notts fans and I know he’s excited to be a big part of the Firebirds this summer’.

The dates for this summer’s Twenty20 competition will be released by NZC shortly.
