Onslow Cricket Club batsman, Andrew Fletcher has been rewarded for years of strong club and Wellington A performances with the final spot on the Wellington Firebirds’ contract list for 2018-19.
A right-handed top-order bat, Fletcher has progressed through the Cricket Wellington pathway system, representing the province at age-group level before starring for the representative A team in recent seasons.
Firebirds’ Assistant Coach, Glenn Pocknall is particularly familiar with Fletcher, having coached him in the A side, and is proud to see him rise to being a contracted player,
“Andrew has matured as a player immensely over the last two years and dominated at the level below.
“He was the leading run-scorer out of the seven teams competing during the National Provincial A tournament in 2016-17 and then scored heavily during Firebirds internal matches during the last pre-season.
“I’ve watched how hard he works to ensure his game is continuing to evolve and we’re looking forward to having him with the squad.”
Fletcher is, naturally, very enthusiastic about the prospect of making his provincial debut,
“I’m really excited. The journey so far has been long, but I’ve worked hard so it’s a hugely satisfying achievement.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity and am very much looking forward to getting started.”
Fletcher completes the contract list for the Firebirds who will come together in September to begin their 2018-19 season.
