Come and join the cricketing fun in the Wellington sun this summer as the game continues to grows with on-field options for females of all ages and abilities.
For adults players we have a T20 Social grade and the Premier Women’s grade. These competitions offer something for all skill and commitment levels but both guarantee a good time with new and old friends.
For our young Wellington cricketers there is the Year 5-8 girls-only grade played on a Sunday or the Premier Girls grade which is played on a Saturday afternoon. Both of these grades are structured around the school calendar so they still allow plenty of time for your family holidays.
Elizabeth Scurr is a former-Wellington Blaze rep who has kept her passion for the game going through club cricket since stepping away from the rep scene. “I enjoy playing in the Premier Womens grade as it’s a fun and friendly environment” says Scurr, before adding where some of the real enjoyment comes from, “there’s also a great social element with players socialising after a game.”
Out in Stokes Valley, Mandi Lanceley loves the atmosphere that comes with playing social cricket. “It is not unusual to find 3 generations of one family down at Delaney Park on a Saturday enjoying a good game of cricket” Mandy says, “by early afternoon the pitches are buzzing with womens & college girls games.” Mandi is pretty clear when it comes to recommending cricket to others, “get involved this summer – whether you are a beginner or a past player you are guaranteed to have a blast!”
Cricket Wellington invites you, both young and wise, beginner or experienced, to come along to a local club training this summer and get a taste of the game.
Simply fill out the form on this page and we’ll be in touch about getting you started in cricket.
Welcoming both competitive new players or experienced cricketers, this grade focuses on participation for players who enjoy a challenge. The Premier Women’s grade has four teams that train once a week in local clubs, with matches on Saturday afternoons playing both T20 & 40-over cricket. Teams are well-organised with encouraging coaches to help players of all abilities and stages.
T20 Women’s Social Grade
This grade is played on Saturday afternoon from November through to March with a break over Christmas/New Years. The grade offers adult beginners/social players a welcoming and fun environment to enjoy a short, inclusive game with friends both new and old. Teams are 8-a-side so there’s plenty of exercise & laughter, both on and off the field. A fun Saturday cricketing experience is the main aim of this grade.
Premier Girls Cricket
This grade is played on Saturday afternoons and welcomes players aged 12 and over to participate in girls only teams. Teams are well organised by club coaches and offer plenty of learning and opportunities for everyone. Girls of all abilities are welcome in this grade and there’s great team spirit in each of the clubs.
Year 5-8 Girls SuperSmash
For girls who want to give cricket a go for the first time, or play with friends in a game that needs no protective equipment and uses an incrediball/soft cricket ball. This grade has short boundaries, is finished within 75 minutes, and all players have a go at batting, bowling, and fielding. A fun, fast, and inclusive environment, this grade is perfect for young girls to play and for parents new to the game to have a quick burst of our nation’s favourite summer game.
So, dust off the old gear bag or simply come along and join in the fun – if you don’t have gear, clubs have plenty and there are new friends waiting to help you get going for all your summer cricketing fun!
