Easts big target not enough

Easts have started their quest for 4 major championships in one season with a loss to Greytown. The Central Districts representitives has to much firepower in their middle order and Easts bowlers allowed them 2 extra overs through no-balls to try and chase the competitive target of 302.

Eastern Suburbs started off on a solid note and had good solid contributions throughout their innings. Very good team effort from the boys from Wellington.  Greytown started their chase slowly but soon changed gear after receiving 11 free hits. They seemed well in control throughout especially when Rance and Speers were at the crease. That 175 run partnership demoralized Easts were fought till the end. Great day for Greytown but an even better day for Seth Rance.

Easts face Otago champs Albion in day 2 and will be looking for a big win to get their campaign back on track.

All matches are being played at Cornwell Park in Auckland.
