Match update - One day - 22nd July 2017
We won the toss and elected to bat first. Matt Taylor and Steve Murdoch opened the batting for us. We got off to a flier in the first 15 overs and Matt was the aggressor while Steve was looking ominous form. Matt scored 47 off 41 balls and put on a good 87 runs partnership for the first wicket.
Tom Blundell batting at no3. put on a classy show along with Steve Murdoch. Both put on a partnership of 193 runs off 28 overs. Tom was at his aggressive best scoring 125 runs off 94 balls and we retired him. Steve paced his inning brilliantly for 106 runs off 129 balls. He never looked like he was going to get out and eventually was run out. Woody then finished the innings off in style scoring 28 runs off 16 balls consistently picking gaps.
Tom and Steve got first hand experience of what it takes physically to score a hundred under 35 degrees. There were ice packs, towels and showers to cool both down.
We lent Jesse and Fraser to Anantapur team rather them having to sit around and do nothing for the entire day. Unfortunately it didn't work out as both were out fairly early in their inning.
Our bowling was quite accurate and Nick, Haydon, Nishant, Bhavik all bowled very well consistently picking wickets and keeping the opponents under check.
Eventually Anantapur could only really must 248 runs off the 50 overs and we won the game in a canter.
We are resting Tom and Steve tomorrow. Luke Woodcook and Fraser Colson will be playing for the opponents while we will borrow couple of their players.
In about two days we are playing Ranji side for 3 days in a row and will be trying to keep all our top players in good shape and well rested.
