PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This role will have responsibility for the relationship management of Cricket Wellington affiliated clubs and will have portfolio responsibility for leading coach and umpire development, with a focus on recruitment, education, training and retention and the overall strategic direction for coaching and umpiring in Wellington.

 

This position will work in partnership with New Zealand Cricket, the wider Cricket Wellington community team, Cricket Wellington Umpires and Scorers, Schools and affiliated Cricket Wellington clubs to grow the game and enhance the quality of the cricket experience for players, coaches, umpires, administrators and fans.

 

KEY RESULTS AREA

(DUTIES AND TASKS)

Strategic Leadership ·         Operate as the Portfolio Manager lead for coach development (supported by the experts within the Performance Pathway business unit) and lead the implementation of the joint venture with the Cricket Wellington Umpires and Scorers Association
Cricket Network ·         Lead on the development of annual plans with designated clubs and provide bi-month activity report regulary to club committees

·         Manage the delivery of the Cricket Network Support Model for clubs, schools and colleges within a defined regional zone

·         Be active in the recruitment and management of the Cricket Deliverer contractors network

·         Manage and support the delivery of Cricket Awareness and Super Star Skills programmes in schools (including cluster tournaments) via cricket deliverers

·         Support the development and delivery of national pilot initiatives from New Zealand Cricket

·         Support the delivery of the Wellington Coach Development Plan

·         Work with Cricket Wellington Community Managers to conduct pre and post season reviews

·         Assist with the organisation of general community engagement and promotional activities

Coaching ·         Align with New Zealand Cricket’s Coach Development Strategy

·         Create an annual Coach Developer Plan, including production of an annual calendar of coach education events

·         Lead the administration of all advanced NZC Coach Education Courses, as well as implementing a Coach Mentoring scheme

·         Co-ordinate Coach Developer workshops to educate and upskill identified Coach Developers/Trainers

·         Oversee the administration of all Coach Education and ensure the coaching database (Friendly Manager) and coach accreditation is kept up to date

·         Create an on-line coaching hub to include access to resources and coaching support

·         Actively research and understand alternative best practice coach development strategies and initiatives

Umpiring ·         Drive the implementation of the Cricket Wellington Umpire Development Plan

·         Lead the joint venture with the Cricket Wellington Umpires and Scorers (CWUSI) and review annually

·         Design and lead an umpire recruitment campaign and strategy aimed at clubs and schools

·         Liaise with CWUSI to implement a mentoring and coaching programme

·         Establish on-line educational resources for umpires

·         Liaise with the Regional Marketing Executive to actively promote and market umpiring opportunities

Management ·         Support the leadership and management of a cohesive and effective Community Cricket Support model, including a network of deliverers, that creates outstanding experiences for the people of Wellington
Financial Management ·         Support the Finance and Administration Manager with monthly financial reporting and reforecasting
Health and Safety ·         Understand and implement the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, and Cricket Wellington’s policy and procedures.

–          Implement and maintain Cricket Wellington’s safe working practices and procedures within your team and lead by example in all areas of health and safety

–          Ensure all team members understand, and comply with, any reasonable policy or procedure given by Cricket Wellington

–          Ensure all team members participate in Health and Safety training, meetings and events when required

–          Encourage all team members to be actively involved in hazard and risk identification, assessment and control

–          Follow all reasonable health and safety rules and instructions

–          Take reasonable care for your own health and safety at work and the health and safety of others

–          Take reasonable care that your acts (or omissions) do not adversely affect the health and safety of yourself or others

–          Co-operate with any reasonable policy or procedure from CW, including wearing any necessary personal protective equipment and clothing

·         Report any potential or actual risks, injuries, work-related illnesses and incidents (including near misses) so Cricket Wellington can investigate, and eliminate or minimise harm or risk of harm

General ·         Contribute to the development of relevant marketing and communication content

·         Support any Cricket Wellington sponsor obligations relative to this business unit and portfolio

·         Assist Cricket Wellington with risk identification and mitigation and support Risk Register reporting

·         Produce an annual work plan, consistent with the Cricket Wellington Strategy, and budget

·         Undertake special projects from time to time as agreed with the Chief Executive Officer

·         Seek to understand best practice examples of coaching and development strategies in sport across New Zealand and as relevant internationally replicating innovations and improvements in consultation with staff and stakeholders

Experience
Qualifications

·         Tertiary qualification in Sports Management or equivalent

·         New Zealand Cricket Coaching Qualification (or equivalent)

Experience

·         Proven relationship management experience

·         Extensive project management experience

·         Proven ability to strategically develop and manage a program or work area inclusive of planning, reporting, administration of resources and budget
